📊 Data Sources & Methodology
This database is compiled from a combination of historical records, news reports, eyewitness accounts, angler and diver reports, and publicly available research.
Where possible, sightings have been cross-referenced across multiple sources to improve accuracy and remove duplicates.
This is not a satellite tracking dataset. Instead, it focuses on reported and documented sightings, which help provide additional context and fill in gaps between known tracked movements.
While not every reported sighting can be independently verified, the consistency of reports across time and location helps reveal broader patterns in great white shark presence throughout the Gulf of Mexico.
