In the latest episode of Dark Outdoors® we venture into the murky waters behind the making of Jaws—a film that forever altered our perception of the sea and its apex predator. But the terror didn’t end on screen.

We dive into real-life great white shark attacks that fueled the public’s fear and expose how Steven Spielberg’s cinematic masterpiece led to decades of misinformation on sharks but at the same time got people interested in great whites.
From behind-the-scenes chaos and mechanical monsters to misunderstood predators, this is the untold story of fear, fiction, and fallout-with a call for conservation.

Favorite Jaws moment?
What is your favorite moment from Jaws?
As we approach the 50th anniversary, it’s fun to think about the many incredible moments in the film. Despite shark backlash from it, I believe it probably turned more people into shark supporters than haters in the long run.
So, what’s your favorite moment?
Mine is the hilarious exchange between Quint and Hooper when Hooper is loading his shark cage onto the Orca.
Quint: What are you some kind of a half-ass astronaut?
That whole exchange that ended in Robert Shaw singing “Farewell and Adieu” was cinematic gold.
