Last month, we reported on three great white sharks satellite-tagged by Ocearch that showed up in the Gulf of Mexico pretty much due south of New Orleans.
Two of those sharks, Rose and Keiji have pinged again in the same general area. A “ping” is when tags make contact with a satellite after the sharks tagged fin breaches the surface.
Rose Z-Pinged which means it didn’t get an exact coordinate April 14 at 10:30 a.m. and Keiji did the same 8;37 p.m. April 13.
*Keiji, a 578 pound, 9’7 male was originally tagged at Ironbound Island Nova Scotia Sept. 2021.
*Rose, a 10’5, 600 pound female was originally tagged Oct. 2020 in Lunenburg Nova Scotia.

The Louisiana Coast is interesting to me in relation to great whites due to some historical reports I have received from that area. I think now that satellite-tagged whtie sharks are showing up, people are more willing to talk about past reports.
For a long time, many people thought great whites in the Gulf were a fantasy. That was strange to me because it’s part of their native range, but people had this idea the Gulf was white shark free, especially the Texas and Louisiana coasts.
We know they are here now and it’s exciting.
