If you’re looking for a fun and educational family event this Saturday, July 18, I hope you’ll join me at Sea Center Texas in Lake Jackson for Shark Celebration.
The free event runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and celebrates the incredible world of sharks through interactive exhibits, educational displays, hands-on activities, and presentations designed for all ages.
I’ll be there representing the Gulf Great White Shark Society, where we’ll have an educational booth dedicated to shark research and conservation in Gulf waters. I’ll also be giving a special presentation at 1 p.m. on Great White Sharks of the Texas Coast & Western Gulf.
During the presentation, I’ll discuss the growing body of evidence showing that great white sharks are more common in Texas and the western Gulf than many people realize. We’ll look at historical encounters, recent satellite tracking research, acoustic detections, and the latest scientific discoveries that are reshaping what we know about these apex predators and their role in Gulf ecosystems.
Everyone who attends my presentation will be entered into a drawing for a Great White Shark prize package from Chester Moore and the Gulf Great White Shark Society.
This event is especially meaningful to me because of my longtime connection with Sea Center Texas. I had the privilege of volunteering with the facility’s Southern Flounder broodstock program and have spoken at the center on several occasions over the years. Sea Center Texas has become one of Texas’ premier marine education facilities, helping thousands of visitors better understand our coastal ecosystems, fisheries, and marine wildlife.
Operated by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Sea Center Texas combines a public aquarium, fish hatchery, and education center, making it one of the state’s most unique conservation destinations.
Shark Celebration is designed to showcase the remarkable abilities of sharks while helping visitors better understand their importance to healthy ocean ecosystems. Throughout the day, guests can compare their own athletic abilities to those of sharks through activities including the Shark Speed Challenge, High Jump Test, Bite Force Test, and the Shark Combine.
