Chester Moore’s Great White Shark Work Earns Top Honors

BEAUMONT, Texas — Wildlife journalist and Gulf Great White Shark Society founder Chester Moore earned eight First-Place awards overall at the 35th Annual Press Club of Southeast Texas Excellence in Media Awards, with several of those top honors recognizing work connected to great white sharks.

Competing alongside mainstream television, radio, print, and digital media organizations from across Southeast Texas, Moore received First Place honors for multiple Gulf Great White Shark Society projects focused on public education, conservation, and storytelling about large sharks in Gulf waters.

Among those honors was First Place for Best Documentary for Gulf Great White Sharks: Return of an Icon, a film exploring the growing understanding of the species in Gulf waters and their significance to marine conservation.

Moore served as writer, producer, and narrator of the documentary, while Paul Fuzinski partnered on the project as videographer and editor. The documentary has now earned recognition from both mainstream and outdoor media organizations, having previously won Best Outdoors Video from the Texas Outdoor Writers Association.

The documentary premiered at the Museum of the Gulf Coast and has helped raise awareness of the increasing documentation of great white sharks in Gulf waters and their importance to healthy marine ecosystems.

Moore also earned First Place for Best Press Release for promoting the premiere event for Gulf Great White Sharks: Return of an Icon at the Museum of the Gulf Coast.

In addition, he received First Place honors for a public service announcement broadcast on iHeartRadio NewsTalk 560 KLVI that encouraged greater public awareness and understanding of great white sharks in Gulf waters.

“These awards are particularly meaningful because they come from a competition that includes outstanding television, radio, print, and digital journalists from across Southeast Texas,” Moore said.

“It is an honor to be recognized among such a prestigious field of hardworking journalists whose commitment to informing and serving their communities is evident in the quality of their work.

“At the same time, I’m grateful that conservation stories and wildlife education can compete and connect with broader audiences. The recognition shows there is real interest in learning more about white sharks and their role in the Gulf ecosystem.”

The Gulf Great White Shark Society works to advance public awareness, education, and conservation related to great white sharks through journalism, documentary filmmaking, public outreach, and partnerships with researchers, anglers, and conservation organizations.

For years, Moore has documented great white shark encounters, emerging research, and conservation developments related to the species, helping bring greater attention to the growing body of evidence showing white sharks are an important part of Gulf ecosystems.

The awards reflect the Gulf Great White Shark Society’s ongoing mission to communicate science, inspire conservation, and share the remarkable story of great white sharks in Gulf waters.
