PORT ARTHUR, TX — The Museum of the Gulf Coast will host an exciting, family-friendly event celebrating one of the ocean’s most fascinating predators during “Great White Sharks in the Gulf Family Day” on Saturday, June 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Admission is free and open to the public.
Fittingly, June 20 is widely recognized by shark enthusiasts as “Jaws Day,” marking the 51st anniversary of the release of the iconic film Jaws, making this event an especially timely celebration of these legendary animals.
As great white sharks continue to make waves with their growing presence in Gulf waters, this special event will dive into the latest science, real-world encounters, and conservation efforts surrounding these iconic animals.

Families will enjoy a wide range of free, hands-on activities throughout the event, including interactive conservation exhibits, a themed photo booth, and educational displays designed for all ages. Guests can also visit tables hosted by a variety of organizations, including conservation groups and marine-focused partners, to learn more about sharks and Gulf Coast wildlife.
All attendees will receive an exclusive event decal, adding to the fun and making this a memorable experience for shark enthusiasts.

While great white sharks are the main focus, the event will also highlight bull sharks in the Sabine Lake system and along the upper Texas coast, as well as other shark species and marine life found in the region.
A highlight of the day will be a screening of the groundbreaking documentary Gulf Great White Sharks, the first film dedicated to documenting great white sharks in the Gulf.
Following the screening, attendees can take part in a live Q&A session with filmmaker and wildlife journalist Chester Moore, who will also host a special book signing for his book Gulf Great White Sharks: Their Return and Other Large Sharks of the Forgotten Sea.
The book debuts at the event.
“This will be an incredible day for the whole family,” said Chester Moore.
“There will be many fun activities and a chance to learn a lot more about not only sharks, but sharks in our local Gulf waters and I look forward to debuting my book that literally starts with a story from the Gulf out of Sabine Pass.”
Families, ocean lovers, and curious minds of all ages are encouraged to attend and experience a day of discovery.
