The Gulf continues to deliver shark surprises — and this one’s big.
We’re excited to announce that the Gulf Great White Shark Sightings Database has just been updated, and it includes a great white shark filmed off the coast of Tampa, Florida in February 2025.
🦈 What This Means
This sighting adds to the growing body of evidence that great white sharks are not rare visitors to the Gulf of Mexico, particularly during the cooler months. The database, launched to document these encounters. We do not document satellite-tagged sharks but other anecdotal reports not seen by other sources.
February is known for seasonal movements of sharks in the Gulf, and this sighting supports ongoing theories that great whites may use the Gulf as a winter migration route or even a temporary feeding ground.
